With the sparkling azure water of the Atlantic Ocean at its most vibrant and tranquil around the Florida Keys, it's hard to believe that this relaxing, sun-drenched key with its quaint jetties and boat docks, is just an hour's drive south of bustling Miami.

Islamorada has earned itself the title of Sport Fishing Capital of the World and certainly it has fine seafood restaurants to prove the point, but there's no shortage of other recreations. Diving to the barrier reef - or taking a boat out to see it - is a popular pastime, and local attractions include trained dolphins, turtles and sea lions. For the more energetic, there are powerboat and jetski races, but relaxation is really the name of the game here - a great place to unwind.
